Slide Planet - a net label dedicated to the slide guitar

A lifelong drummer, draws from many sources and chronicles the three years that he spent living and studying with master musicians of Africa. Much of his music is played on traditional instruments like the 21 stringed kora and the Mbira, or thumb piano and lap slide guitars.

Burtt was a graduate student in San Francisco studying creative writing, spoken word, and African drum and folklore when he began looking to cultures that maintain oral histories for connections between rhythm, music, and the spoken word. Upon discovering the melodious music of the Mbira and the corresponding poetry of the Shona, he left at once for Zimbabwe, then Ghana, and the Gambia, staying long in each place, living and moving within the society of the traditional musician, expanding his musical vision.

Laurie Lee C., also known as cinderellalifestyle at youtube began playing stringed instruments after finding a banjo at a mountain swap meet, in 2005. She planned to sell the antique banjo, but instead she began to play it every time she past by the place it sat. One thing led to another, and she found a local instructor, which led to playing resophonic slide guitar, lap steel style, after a year of banjo instruction. She gives credit to her teacher Pete Grant, reknown Pedal Steelist and storied California professional musician with introducing her to the reso lap slide guitar, as well as to David Lindleys wonderful music, which she refers to being a "light bulb" moment, in her musical journey. Music figured large in her upbringing, with her Mother playing piano, and organ, and her Father singing.
